Follow-up to Prior Post… How Many Utility Patents are Directed to Bridgestone Tour B330 Golf Balls?
In light of the recent golf ball patent infringement settlement between Bridgestone and Acushnet, and in light of my recent post regarding ProV1 patents, I thought a look at the patents directed to Bridgestone’s top-of-the-line golf ball was in order.
Do you think there are more patents listed on a box of Titleist ProV1’s or a box of Bridgestone Tour B330 golf balls?
Can you guess the number of utility patents listed on a sleeve of Bridgestone Tour B330 golf balls? Is it…
(i) under 10
(ii) 10-20
(iii) 21-30
(iv) 31-40
(v) over 40
The correct answer is (iii). The tongue of the sleeve lists 21 utility patents (with additional patents pending)! The following is the list of patents:
Therefore, the sleeve of ProV1’s lists more patents with 41 utility patents compared to Bridgestone’s 21, but with patents it is not the quantity that matters.

PS - Would you have guessed that a patent titled “Method for Production of Zinc Acrylate” would be listed on a sleeve of golf balls?
