Review of the Third Episode of “Fore Inventors Only” on The Golf Channel – Could They Squeeze in Any More GolfSmith Plugs?
It seems like the inventions are getting better. There were several inventions that I would purchase. Now for my review…
1) Windage – read the wind with a powder squirter (good for 40 yards)
Panel: packin’
The IP Golf Guy’s Evaluation:
Marketability: bogey
Protectability: double bogey
Notes: I could see this selling.
2) Night Golf Cart
Panel: packin’
The IP Golf Guy’s Evaluation:
Marketability: double bogey
Protectability: double bogey
Notes: Ridiculous.
3) Pull Cart Caddy – a belt strap for your pull cart
Panel: packin’
The IP Golf Guy’s Evaluation:
Marketability: double bogey
Protectability: bogey
Notes: I would love to see someone actually using one of these on the course. Even GolfSmith couldn’t sell 100 of these.
4) The Pillar – elevated rear foot show (inflatable / adjustable golf spikes)
Panel: pass
The IP Golf Guy’s Evaluation:
Marketability: par
Protectability: par
Notes: Pretty good idea.
5) Power Reactor Fitness Trainer – medicine ball and trampoline turned sideways
Panel: pass
The IP Golf Guy’s Evaluation:
Marketability: bogey
Protectability: bogey
Notes: Are the judges crazy?
6) Gyro Swing Trainer
Panel: pass
The IP Golf Guy’s Evaluation:
Marketability: par
Protectability: par
Notes: Interesting idea, but has this already been patented? Check out USPN 6530845.
7) Club Caddie (what an original name) – small club stand (the 8” clothes pin)
Panel: pass
The IP Golf Guy’s Evaluation:
Marketability: par
Protectability: double bogey
Notes: The picture of a crazy inventor! Incredibly simple… but probably incredibly simple to knock-off. I could see these selling, but can he protect it?
8) Side-Kick Putter
Panel: pass
The IP Golf Guy’s Evaluation:
Marketability: par
Protectability: par
Notes: It would be worth a try. It looks like the inventor has a couple of patents on the product. Check out USPN 6,663,499 and USPN 7,232,379.
9) Digital Shield – partial glove for the off hand
Panel: packin’
The IP Golf Guy’s Evaluation:
Marketability: par
Protectability: par
Notes: Bill is a grumpy old man! (with 52 years of playing experience… as he repeatedly tells us) Frankly, I don’t think it is a bad idea.
10) ProPlay Golf Performance System (GPS) – miniature swing video recorder
Panel: pass
The IP Golf Guy’s Evaluation:
Marketability: par
Protectability: par
Notes: I would like one.
So what was my favorite invention? Drum roll please… Another tie this week. I really like The Pillar training golf spikes and the ProPlay Golf Performance System.
Congratulations Golf Channel on another great show!
