Day 3 of 2019’s Golf Product Buzzwords

The name of a product can make or break it. Those that have tried to name 5+ new products have more than likely come to the realization that it should be left to a naming expert, and those “in the know” can generally tell whether a new product name is the result of some amateurish company-wide name generation contest versus the product of a naming professional.

Today’s entry in the field of 2019 golf product names is RIFT, for golf clubs.

What do you think, the product of a naming expert or a hack? Let me know in the comments.

Also, guess which of the club makers plans to launch a RIFT line of clubs.

This bit of insight brought to you by the trademark office and the following trademark application:

Word Mark      RIFT

Goods and Services     Golf clubs

Serial Number  87908088

Filing Date       May 4, 2018

What do I thing regarding the expert or hack question? I would bet on expert, and predict the name is for a new line of wedges or a groove technology.

When playing well, he will buy 3 sets of irons a year; when playing poorly, he doesn’t buy squat to penalize the equipment makers for his poor play (it has to be somebody’s fault). During the day he helps clients protect their inventions and trademarks, guides them through IP clearance and strategy decisions, and undertakes product name development projects and training; while at night he reads patents and patent applications directed to golf technologies and equipment, and shares them with you.
