The Origins of the Modern Adjustable Driver – Guess the Year
Remember back in 2009-2011 when most of the major golf equipment manufacturers first launched adjustable drivers allowing us to fine tune loft, lie, and face angle? Oh the good old days. I remember thinking “wow, this is amazing – but probably a fad that will only be around for one or two product cycles.” Boy was I wrong.
Surely this amazing technology was just recently invented, right? Well, take a look at this design and let me know in the comments what year you think the patent issued.
I would say that the inventor, one Mr. William Wettlaufer of Buffalo, was a little ahead of the trend.
The design was patented the year that Franklin D. Roosevelt was re-elected as President (1940); almost 80 years ago. Pretty amazing!
