Shanks… Hosel Rockets… No Matter What You Call Them, We Have All Had Them; Inventors Have Been Designing Clubs to Prevent Hosel Rockets Since 1921

Inventors have been trying to develop shank resistant wedges for years. I am sure that everyone has seen the advertisements for F2 Golf’s face forward wedges. Let’s look a few of the early innovators in shank resistant clubs, as well as one design that would seem to promote hosel rockets.

First, USPN 1550501 titled “Golf Club” was filed in 1921. Check out this design.

Secondly, USPN 2683036 titled “Nonshanking Golf Iron” was filed back in 1949. The following figures illustrate this innovative design.

Lastly, USPN 3539184 titled “Set of Golf Clubs” would seem to promote hosel rockets. I sure would not want to hit these clubs. Check them out below.

Interesting stuff… and proof that shanks have been driving golfers to drink for years.
