IP Grab of the Week - Manufacturing Method for a Composite Striking Plate of a Golf Club Head

This week’s “IP Grab of the Week” award goes to Nelson Precision Casting’s U.S. patent application titled “Manufacturing Method for a Composite Striking Plate of a Golf Club Head,” US Pub. No. US2007/0017084. The application indicates that there are many drawbacks of associated with joining striking plates to club heads using conventional explosion welding. The Nelson method of joining the striking plate to the club head incorporates an adaptor plate of a material that has good weldability. It will be interesting to see if this application matures into a patent, as it seems that they are asking for a lot.

Who is Nelson Precision Casting? The Nelson website indicates that they are the largest OEM manufacturer of premium golf clubs in the world, with over 20% of the total world production! Amazing.
