The Perfect Driver… Why Can’t I Find This Club?

This beauty of a golf club is disclosed in USPN D501,903 titled “Golf Club Head.”

 

Frankly, I was hoping to find a utility application listing the same inventor so that I could learn what was behind the accordion look. Perhaps, each layer has slightly different material properties for optimum deformation at impact with the ball? Maybe the design creates regions of engineered deformation? Perhaps both… 

Needless to say, I could not locate a related utility application (or patent), so we will never know the origins of the accordion design.

Congratulations Kouji Tanaka… I would love to give this design a try on the course.
