Day 2 of 2020’s Golf Product Buzzwords – DUCK’Z NUTZ

The name of a new sports equipment product can make or break it. Those that have tried to name 5+ new products have more than likely come to the realization that it should be left to a naming consultant, and those “in the know” can generally tell whether a new product name is the result of some amateurish company-wide name generation contest, the consensus of a product panel, or the product of a naming professional. I doubt you need to be “in the know” to form an opinion as to the origins of this one…

Today’s entry in the field of 2020 golf product names is DUCK’S NUTZ, and the more creative variation of DUCK’Z NUTZ, for golf clubs.

What do you think, the well thought out product of a naming expert? Let me know in the comments.

Also, guess which of the club makers plans to use the DUCK’S NUTZ or DUCK’Z NUTZ marks in association with their clubs.

This bit of insight brought to you by the trademark office and the following trademark applications:

Word Mark      DUCK’S NUTZ

Goods and Services      IC 028. G & S: Golf clubs

Word Mark      DUCK’Z NUTZ

Goods and Services      IC 028. G & S: Golf clubs

Now I am firm believer that a product name should stand out from the competition and be memorable, which these names are, but seriously – a tacky name or tagline can actually diminish the value of a brand (particularly if it is supposed to be considered a premium product. Can you imagine:

Mercedes-Benz; The best or nothing The Duck’z Nutz

DeBeers; A diamond is forever The Duck’z Nutz

BMW; The Ultimate Driving Machine The Duck’z Nutz

I can’t wait to see if the brand has the “nutz” to use this tacky tagline!
