Patents by Dave Pelz – Phil Mickelson’s Short-Game Coach

After watching the Players Championship this weekend there is little doubt that Michelson has one of the best short-games in the past twenty years. Perhaps there is something to Dave Pelz’s instruction. Ever wonder if he has patented any golf instruction aides?

It turns out that Dave Pelz is a listed inventor on 12 golf patents. He has patented everything from sets of wedges with specific groove shapes and spacing to putters and putter practice aides. The patents are really some interesting reading (and I bet most of his inventions do actually improve your game). Check out the following:

1  USPN 7,014,568 titled “Golf club”

2  USPN 6,860,139 titled “Apparatus for measuring green-speed”

3  USPN 6,503,152 titled “Putting trainer”

4  USPN 6,312,345 titled “Golf practice platform for a variety of golf shots”

5  USPN 5,431,403 titled “Golf putting practice device with perfect putting surface”

6  USPN 5,039,098 titled “Golf club having an aligning and quick connect-disconnect coupling between the golf club shaft and club head”

7  USPN 4,754,976 titled “Putter”

8  USPN 4,688,798 titled “Golf club and head including alignment indicators”

12  USPN 4,025,078 titled “Attachment for a golf club”

Congratulations Dave Pelz… you are listed as an inventor on more patents than USGA Senior Technical Director Dick Rugge! These are some interesting inventions.
